Transcript[]
- Hurry to the Husk of Creation
- Upon reaching the Exiles' Repose
Cult of Terror is assaulting the Repose, and are trying to channel the Fire of Life; and unbalancing it as a result
- Akinees kills the Conservator guarding the gate to the Husk of Creation
- Akinees: Sever the barrier!
- The cultists approach the barrier
Ymuthrus arrives with some Conservators. They bind Akinees
- Akinees: You would suppress Terror with this?
- Akinees dispels his bindings with a shockwave
Ymuthrus and Akinees clash, and the former is defeated
- With the player
- Class:
- Standard: They're not through yet.
- Blood Knight: Akinees. You have but moments left.
- Demon Hunter: I still owe you an arrow for Esmund.[1]
- Kill Akinees and his cultists
- Akinees: (upon death) After... all... I sacrificed...
- Ymuthrus gets up from the ground
Speak with Ymuthrus
- Ymuthrus: (to self) I tried to help your children, Father. With everything I had...
- Class: You can still help. Reinforce the gate. Diablo will destroy your home and mine.
- Ymuthrus: You step foot on our land for the first time,[2] and believe you know how to care for it? Arrogance.
- Class: You have failed as a leader.[3] At least try to do what is right. Keep your people safe.
- Ymuthrus: I have kept them safe!
(approaches the spire) Without the Pathstone, there is nothing I can accomplish here. The Lilin—
- Reveal the Pathstone
Ymuthrus beholds the Pathstone
- Ymuthrus: You've... soiled it. But... if we destroy it, perhaps—
Zatham assassinates Ymuthrus
- Ymuthrus: I... no...
- Zatham takes the Pathstone
- Zatham: I have never killed anyone more deserving.
Zatham channels unbalanced Fire of Life from the spire into the Pathstone
- The act unbalances the Pathstone
- Zatham: Fire of Life, heed your child this once. Open the way!
- Zatham opens the gate to the Husk of Creation
The Bride of Hell appears
- Bride of Hell: (looks back at Zatham) None are to follow me. (enters the Husk of Creation)
- Zatham: Keep your promise, witch. Wipe this place clean.
Speak with Zatham
- Zatham: I hoped we could do this together. But you would not accept the need.
- Class: You've been working with the cult.
- Zatham: Outsiders bring destruction. I went searching for them, great of strength and greater of will. I found you... and her. And her will is stronger.
Let the Bride finish her ritual. We can eliminate all the fanatics once she is done. If I had not tipped the scales to help her so many times, you would have already killed her. - Class: Listen to yourself. What you're doing isn't justice. Geherit... Tarzoine... there are good people here. I know you understand that.
- Zatham: I am doing exactly as you do. Punishing the wicked. And the wicked far outnumber the good.
The Cradle must be destroyed. All the rot, burned away at once. It is beyond redemption.
(grabs the Pathstone) I know this in my blood.
- Zatham absorbs the unbalanced Fire of Life from the Pathstone
It mutates him into an Afflicted
- Zatham: If you would defend this wretched place, defend it with your life.
- Defeat Zatham.
- Zatham: (upon death) Let it all end.
- Inspect Zatham's corpse
- Class
- Barbarian: You could have made a strong leader for your people. What a waste.
- Blood Knight: No one knows how long they'll have before they fall. Did you do enough good to offset... this?
- Crusader: I'm sorry for what you suffered.[4] I'm sorrier for what you made of it.
- Monk: Even the good you did drips with evil. A shameful end.
- Wizard: I don't know how many times you tried to find another way. But it wasn't enough.
Hurry to the Husk of Creation
- At the Husk
The Bride attunes the shard to the Fire of Life
- Geherit appears behind the Bride
- Geherit: You will sully our home no more. (blasts the Bride)
- Bride of Hell: (evades the blast) Will you? (charges her own blast)
The Bride of Hell overpowers Geherit
- The Bride of Hell resumes her ritual
- Bride of Hell: Restore the stone to purity! Expunge the forces within!
- The shard shatters the pillar of crystalized Fire of Life
A rift is formed
- Check on Geherit
- Geherit: C-couldn't... stop... her.
- Stop the Bride of Hell
At the Husk
- Attack the Bride
- Bride of Hell: You struggle in vain. (teleports)
You're a pawn with no moves left. (teleports)
The Lord of Terror will receive His due. (teleports)
It's begun. (teleports)
His will— (teleports)
—is absolute. (teleports)
Kneel and weep.
The Bride of Hell teleports above the rift
- Geherit arrives at the Husk
- Geherit: The shard of creation... it shields her from everything.
- Class: I can't hurt her. No other choice.
- Geherit: You don't mean to—
- Class: I don't want to, but I'm going to.
- Faint Voice: (from the rift) Destruction... rises...
- Geherit: What was that voice?
- Enter the Creation Rift
Cage of Creation[]
A stream of the Fire of Life flows into the rift from the portal
- Faint Voice: (disembodied) A mortal? How have you come to be here?
- Explore the Creation Rift.
Numerous tentacles litter the path (kill or evade them)
- Some distance ahead
Tentacles obstruct the path
- Start destroying the Tentacles
- Faint Voice: (disembodied) No matter. We are trapped in this prism of creation.
I am the Archangel Tyrael. And the Lord of Destruction... is winning our struggle.
- After crossing the Tentacles
A Hoarfrost surges to the player
- Baal: (disembodied) <mad cackle> This is your army?
- Faint Voice: (disembodied) His power grows by the moment. I know not how.
A force is feeding him from beyond.
- Destroy all Tentacles and proceed
The player arrives at another blockade of tentacles
- Faint Voice: (disembodied) Mortal, if you have any strength, aid me however you can.
We must keep him imprisoned.
- Destroy all Tentacles and proceed
The path ahead is blocked by more tentacles, and a wall
- Faint Voice: (disembodied) He renews himself!
Hurry. There is no time!
- Destroy all Tentacles and shatter the Wall
Baal can be seen bound in the distance
- Baal-partly reformed-is absorbing the Fire of Life
- Tyrael flies in
- Tyrael: No!
Tyrael uses his wings to bind Baal
- Baal: Destruction is not caged!
Baal shatters his bindings, and Tyrael is flung away by the backlash
- Proceed beyond the Gate
Baal destroys the path
- Baal: I will show you!
Start fleeing from the Wave of Destruction
- Tyrael: (disembodied) Flee, mortal. He is shattering the very walls of this realm!
- Baal: (disembodied) Yes. Run to "safety".
- Break an obstructing Wall to Bridge the Gap
The player narrowly crosses the bridge
- Baal: (disembodied) You've escaped! Nothing more to fear. Rest a moment.
- The player approaches a platform
Tyrael is trapped in a giant mass of tentacles
- Tyrael: I... cannot... move...
- Destroy the Abhorrent Growth to free Tyrael
After Tyrael is freed
- Tyrael: His tendrils spread throughout his cage. It will not last much longer.
I... will try... to keep the walls together. You must... cleave through his limbs.
If he breaks free... if he is reborn... it will spell doom for your world.
- The realm continues to quake
- Tyrael: I... have to... hold...
Tyrael stabilizes the realm
- Baal: (disembodied) Crush them. Slowly. (Summons his minions to the platform)
- After killing the Demons
Tentacles emerge around Tyrael and begin to attack the angel
- Tyrael: It's... crumbling...
Tyrael falters
- After destroying the Tentacles, succubi arrive to kill Tyrael
- Stygian Mistress: Pull the angel apart!
- The Realm continues to crumble
- Tyrael: Ngh... I... must...
Tyrael strains under the load
- Meanwhile, Baal is almost fully reformed
- Baal: Futility! The more you cling to, the more I can destroy! (leaps down to Tyrael)
Here is your justice, Tyrael. <roar>
Baal reforms and overpowers Tyrael
- Battle the of Destruction
- Baal: I will relish your struggle.
- A while into the battle.
Baal corrupt part of the platform
- Baal: There is nothing beyond my reach.
- Shortly after
- Baal: I hold this entire realm.
- As the player seemingly gains the upper hand
- Baal: The "Worldstone" is mine to shatter.
Baal begins to collapse the realm
- Baal: As are your lives.
Tyrael seemingly sacrifices himself to shield the player from a Wave of Destruction
- Meanwhile, the Bride of Hell escapes with the purified shard
Baal—renewed—exits the rift, bringing his tendrils and corruption along
- Baal: Where to begin?
- Nearby locals—Lilin and Inari—bow to Baal
- Supplicant #1: Lord Baal!
- Supplicant #2: I will give you anything!
- Supplicant #3: Please spare me.
- Supplicant #4: Destruction is upon us.
- The player exits the rift
- Tyrael: (disembodied) Mor...tal... stop... him...
- The battle with Destruction begins anew
Baal casts a cataclysm that kills his to-be worshippers
- Shortly after
Baal rips more of the locals to himself, and transforms them into Aberrations
- Baal: You offer me worship, but I am entitled to your obliteration.
- After killing the demons, Baal revives them
- After killing them a second time
Baal detonates their corpses
- Baal: They were willing. But... inadequate. Hahahaha!
Baal summons numerous flesh thorns and tentacles
.
- After Baal receives major injuries, he attunes a growth to himself
Baal absorbs essence from the growth to heal
- Baal: I am in the roots of this land. Hehe. Conflict itself restores me.
- After the fatal blow is landed on Baal
- Baal: Aaaaaaaaaaaagh!
Baal's soul returns to Hell, leaving behind his corpse
- Geherit: (from a distance) Was that... the Lord of Destruction?
Talk to Geherit
- Geherit: (frees herself from tentacles binding her) You defeated him.
- Class: They were bound within the Worldstone shard. Baal... and the Archangel Tyrael. Baal broke free, and Tyrael... protected me.
- Geherit: After Baal appeared, the Bride of Hell walked through a portal. With the stone whole again. She has what she came for.
The whole island shook. I thought it would sink. And my people... came from everywhere to kneel before the Lord of Destruction. They wouldn't listen to me. He... took them, and...
I don't want to spend another second here.
- Follow Geherit out of the Husk of Creation
Discuss the recent events her
- Geherit: Zatham attacked me at the spring. There were cultists with him.[3]
- Class: I know. He's... no longer a threat.
- Geherit: After what the Prevailing Wind did to him...[4] after what he had to do... I knew there was anger in his heart. But I never expected...
I should have stopped Ymuthrus when he called for retribution against the Lilin. All of this could have been prevented. - Class: You're far from the most responsible. Even at his worst, Zatham spared your life.[3]
- Geherit: Yes. Though I would be trapped under rubble if not for Tarzoine.[3] Hers was the mercy.
- Follow Geherit back to the Exiles' Repose
It is in ruins
- Geherit: Ruined. There's almost nothing left of it.
Discuss your next actions with Geherit
- Geherit: Hardly enough to rebuild. Maybe... enough to survive.
What will you do now? - Class: I don't know where to find the Bride. I'll try to catch up to her... but I think we're out of time. You should prepare the island to be attacked again.
- Geherit: As we must always. There is no way of knowing how the Fire of Life will scald us now. If the curse will spread or recede.
Yet I would rather have ruins than nothing. We owe our lives—and our home—to you. You will always be welcome.
Speak with Tarzoine
- Tarzoine: There is nothing left for me here. But there is nothing for me anywhere else.
- Class: You shouldn't have to bear this. No one should.
- Tarzoine: Geherit wants to fix our home. I may not live to see that. But I will show fire to the darkness before it takes me.
If anyone can hold this evil back, it will be you, outsider. I know this in my blood.
The player is dragged into a trance
- Faint Voice: (disembodied) An anchor? Mortal can you hear me?
- Class: Tyrael? Where are you?
- Faint Voice: (disembodied) In... the cracks of your soul. I am weak... but... I am... here.
Justice is within you now, and Justice does not rest.
- The trance ends
- Class: What do you mean, Tyrael?
Tyrael? Tyrael? His voice is gone. I should tell Karshun. Maybe we still have a chance.
- Return to Westmarch
Westmarch[]
Speak with Karshun about the outcome of your adventure
- Karshun: You live. Good. Were you able to intercept them?
- Class: In parts. They unleashed the Lord of Destruction on the island. I was at least able to stop him from destroying it.
The Bride of Hell "purified" the Worldstone shard—Baal was trapped inside. After he broke free, she fled the Cradle with the stone.
Zatham... was working with her. I don't know for how long. Before you say I shouldn't have trusted him, I— - Karshun: You're right. I did not trust him.[6] But you saw some valor of his. And it is not as though he killed you in your sleep, despite ample opportunity.
You can be both wrong and right at once, you know. Perhaps between the two of us we shall offer a decent judge of character. - Class: There's something else. I've been... hearing a voice in my head. It's faint... infrequent. I know how this sounds... but I think it's the Archangel Tyrael.
- Karshun: Hmmm... with all your soul has been exposed to, I would not find that impossible. What makes you certain this voice is real?
- Class: He was trapped in the shard too. He defended me against Baal.
- Karshun: It is hardly victory, but it is an advantage they may not expect. Try to commune with your... angel. I will seek any trace of the cult using the Worldstone to open a pathway to the Burning Hells. Such power must leave a sign.
Keep your chin up. We are not dead yet.
