The city apparently dates back to before the Purge. After the carnage and Inarius's tampering with the Worldstone, Zir and his loyalists were banished to the city to remain in slumber for eternity. However, they awoke millennia later due to events on the surface.[1] Zir sealed the city off from outsiders,[2] but was breached by Erys and the Wanderer. The Wanderer fought their way through Zir's forces before confronting Zir himself and slaying him.[3]
Veiled Gate: The gate is sealed with bizarre Ancient runes. A carving in the center depicts a crowned figure in a sarcophagus, sleeping with jeweled eyes open.

It is not entirely clear if the City of the Ancients is simply an alternate name for Kasama, part of Kasama, or a city in its own right. While it appears linked to Kasama at the very least, the terms are never used in proximity to one another.
