The City of the Ancients
The City of the Ancients is an underground nephalem city.
Lore[]

Erys and the Wanderer at the city's entrance
The city apparently dates back to before the Purge. After the carnage and Inarius's tampering with the Worldstone, Zir and his loyalists were banished to the city to remain in slumber for eternity. However, they awoke millennia later due to events on the surface.[1] Zir sealed the city off from outsiders,[2] but was breached by Erys and the Wanderer. The Wanderer fought their way through Zir's forces before confronting Zir himself and slaying him.[3]
In-game[]
The city is accessible in Season of Blood in Diablo IV, first accessed during the quest "A Witness to Dust." It is revisited in "A Serpent Cornered," where the player accesses it through Kasama. It functions as a dungeon in this instance.

- It is not entirely clear if the City of the Ancients is simply an alternate name for Kasama, part of Kasama, or a city in its own right. While it appears linked to Kasama at the very least, the terms are never used in proximity to one another.
