- Deckard Cain(src)
The Carrion Nest is a large, immobile enemy type in Diablo III which spawns Carrion Bats. They can be found in fields and dungeons of Act I, and in sewers of Act II. They seem to be a successor to Blood Hawk Nests from Diablo II.
Appearance and Behavior[]
As the lorebook says, Bat Nests are not really nests but rather bats themselves having been transformed into a half-plant, half-corpse abomination, with a wide open fanged mouth and a large yellow eye in its back, along with atrophied wings.
In-game[]
Bat Nests, also labeled Carrion Nests, Blood Nests, Plagued and Cursed Nests, all spawn the corresponding bat species. Nests are classified as Animals/Beasts. Unlike most other monsters they are immobile and do not attack directly, but quickly spawn more Carrion Bats every few seconds until destroyed. Several nests at once may prove to be a challenge, as the nests themselves are quite durable and their spawn can quickly outnumber any hero that cannot either focus down the nests or use area damage to keep the bats under control.
Events[]
Two events feature and are named after this enemy class.
- "Carrion Farm" takes place in the Forsaken Grounds, a subzone of the Fields of Misery, requiring the hero to destroy four Carrion Nests around an overrun farm, then kill Sicklefang, a unique bat. Completing the event awards an achievement of the same name.
- "Hellbreeder Nest" is found in Act IV (Diablo III) in the Blessed Chancel within Gardens of Hope 3rd Tier, the only time this enemy type appears outside Acts I and II. It features a demon that summons a special variant of this monster called a Corrupt Hellbreeder, which spawns Vile Bats.
