Tollifer was a captain in the Westmarch Navy, who was later raised as an undead thrall of the Reapers.
Biography[]
Tollifer was born in the 1210s. He served in the Navy. Along the way, he "lost a few friends."[1]
The Black Road[]
Tollifer captained the Lonesome Star. c. 1263, he and his ship faced a ship of undead sailors while on patrol. The fighting was hard and brutal, but the crew were able to prevail.
A few months later, Tollifer commanded a mission to rescue Lhex, nephew of King Cornelius, from the clutches of pirate captain Aribar Raithen. He sent some of his men into Tauruk's Port to conduct the operation. Lhex was successfully rescued, though not all the sailors made it back alive. He talked to Darrick Lang concerning the death of Mat Hu-Ring, stating that his presence was expected at the funeral. He told Lang that he considered Hu-Ring to be "one of the few good men" born in the world, and that he was privileged to have known him, though confirmed that he wouldn't let such sentiment show at the man's funeral. After said funeral, he took advantage of the wind to get the Star back to Westmarch.
Nine days after arriving in Westmarch, Tollifer came to Lang, who'd become embroiled in a tavern brawl with some mercenaries. Tollifer reprimanded Lang for his actions. Two and a half months later, Tollifer led the Lonesome Star out of port, with Lang having missed the ship.[1]

Over twenty years after the events at Tauruk's Port, Tollifer was killed and raised as a revenant in service to the Reapers. He was put to rest by the Nephalem.[2]
In-game[]
Tollifer appears as a Unique Revenant Soldier found in the Westmarch Commons in Act V of Diablo III. He spawns for the Tollifer's Last Stand event, when players touch his corpse, after defeating a bunch of Reapers. Killing Captain Tollifer ends the event.
Upon encounter with him in battle, he has the Electrified and Fast Affixes.
Personality and Traits[]
Tollifer was regarded as being one of the finest captains in Westmarch's navy. He had no compunction against leaving men behind if the situation called for it, though did have compassion for those under his command, even if protocol dictated that he maintain decorum. He didn't allow smoking on his ship, and ordered that no man drink alone while in port. He frowned on officers for fraternizing with the crew. Physically, he was a tall, solid man, with graying hair and lamb-chop whiskers.[1]

- Despite being a member of the Westmarch Navy, Tollifer's corpse uses the model of a deceased Rakkisguard.
