Cadeus is a healer based on Bilefen.[1] He has a hut in the Northern Wetlands.
Biography[]
Among the Bodies[]
In 1270, Cadeus was approached by the Shard-seeker, sent to find him by Talva Silvertongue. They spoke of a nearby village, and that Talva believed it to be cursed. Cadeus scoffed at such a suggestion, instead stating that a creature was behind the village's suffering. If they killed the creature, the suffering would end.
The group came to a river where they found a corpse floating in it, having come downriver. Cadeus pointed out that it wasn't magic that was behind this, but rather, that the body had been injected with a toxin. He advised the hero(es) to head upriver and follow the bodies. By doing so, they could discover what was behind this.
Cadeus later found the hero(es) in the village by the remains of Elder Owen. As it had turned out, a Maggot Brood had poisoned the village, killing all its inhabitants bar Owen. While Corpse Worms had writhed inside him, a beacon taken from the Temple of Namari had kept him alive, even as the worms consumed him from the inside. Cadeus lamented Owen's fate, but the hero(es) pointed out that there was another beacon on the island, and it could be causing even more damage. Cadeus directed them to Rikari Village, believing that it was in the hands of the Fetishes.[2]
Cadeus felt somewhat guilty for not being able to save Owens, so he started researching means of making an antidote to the plague. He was able to make a prototype. Later, there was a resurgence of the plague in Port Justinian, and even Cadeus was infected. He enlisted the help of an adventurer to get a sample of infected water, so that he may perfect his antidote. By adulterating the new antidote with the original prototype he was able to make a cure for the green death.[3]
Bounties[]
Note: The following events aren't necessarily linked in chronological order.
Caedus requested that adventurers clear out the Northern Wetlands of Icthids, as the herbs he needed for his medicines grew best there.[4] He similarly requested adventurers to gather Toxic Lurker venom from spiders in the Dark Wood, so he could use it as an anesthetic.[5]
As he continued to study the Bilefen plague, he requested that Plague Stinger specimens be delivered to him.[6]

Trivia[]
- As a healer, Cadeus is possibly named in reference to the Caduceus; a symbol sometimes used in medicine.
- Cadeus is among those who knows at least some of the true nature of the Temple of Namari; he is aware that it was designed not as a temple, but as a prison, for "something."[2]
