Brutes are a variant of Wendigo in Diablo II.
Lore
Brutes are a larger, broader sub-species of Wendigo. They have a lumbering walk, and are not subtle.[1]
In-game
Brutes are the second type of Wendigo encountered and are more commonly found in the latter stages of Act I, most notably in the Dark Wood, in the Black Marsh and in the Pit. While Brutes are slightly more powerful than Gargantuan Beasts and faster, they are overall, the same save for their darker appearance of yellow and dark brown.
