Transcript[]

Upon exiting the Prison Lift
- Class So you're what they sealed away.
This place... it's massive. They could have locked an entire army up.
- Search the prison for clues that would hint the location of the shard
- The player notices a dying guard. Unfortunately, it's too late for him
- Fern: (from nearby) Are-are you a person? Hello?

Fern comes out of hiding
- Fern: I'm called Fern. Can you help me? You... could distract the monsters, maybe?
- Class: Fern? Your brother's looking for you. He said he's sorry.[1]
- Fern: He didn't get killed and ate? He's safe? He said he wasn't going to let a bunch of hedgepigs take our home.
Then he... I had to run. For a long time. And I hid here... but there's so many monsters. I'm not supposed to fight unless they catch me. - Class: He's safe. And I'll get you to him. Just stay close.
- Esmund: (from a distance) Aaaaah!
- Fern starts running towards her brother's voice.

Follow her and protect the both of them
- Fern stops at a pool
- Fern: I know that voice! Esmund!
(peers into the pool) Where are you?
- Tentacles writhe beneath the surface of the pool
- Esmund: (rushes to Fern) Run, you idiot!

Esmund flees with Fern just as the tentacles reach out from the water
- After retreating to a safe distance
- Esmund: You're okay. You're alive.
- Fern: You said would get killed and ate! You screamed at me... you said I was useless! You pushed me! You always tell me what to do! I hate you!
- Esmund: Hey... look. The monsters don't care who they hurt. They don't care that you're little and you can't do anything to them. I couldn't let you go with me. I'm sorry.
- Fern: I don't forgive you. I'm not going to ever. But... we need to help.
- Class: Unless you know where can find a man in a cage of steel, the best thing you can do is stay out of trouble.
- Fern: That's the warden! His room had a big steel cage in it. I can show you!
- Class Absolutely not.
- Esmund: Don't treat us like babies. Let us pay you back. Besides... she can't swim. We're not getting out of here without you.
- Follow Fern s lead to the Warden's Room

The player stops near the Warden's Room
- Fern: That's his room there. He was always nice to me but...
- Class: Keep a safe distance. No running off.
- Upon reaching the entrance to the Warden's Room
- Class: "In a cage of steel, with a beast by his side."[1] Very well.
- Approach the gate

Massive tentacles burst out of the Warden's Room, shattering its gates
- Esmund: Don't worry. I'll protect you, Fern. I swear.
- Class: You two stay right here. Hide, and if you see anything that scares you, run to me.
- Within the Warden's Room

The warden, already warped by the shard, writhes in anguish
- Class: He's twisted... inside and out. How long has he been like this?
- Woodruh: The Heart. It beats. I held it. Cradled it. Warm.
(notices the player) It is mine it is mine, mine, mine!

The warden is angered by the disturbance
- After significantly injuring Woodruh
- Woodruh: The deeps... have raised me up!

Woodruh mutates further
- Woodruh I hear them. They hiss and snarl and I hear them all.
- After defeating Woodruh
- Woodruh: Don't leave me... down here...
- Esmund and Fern enter the scene
- Class: The shard changed him... but he doesn't have it. A warden must have kept records somewhere.
- Warden's Logbook:Main article: Warden's Journal#Contents
- Class: That beast... it was warped by the stone too.

Talk to Esmund and Fern
- Fern: We hid like you said. But swear felt something moving We should go.
- Class: Where was it? Did you see it?
- Esmund: I didn't see anything... but I felt something move too.
- Something from below smashes against the floor grate
- Esmund: (to Fern) Run!
- A giant tentacle bursts through the grate
- Esmund No! No, no!

Fern is captured by the Deepstrider
- Esmund: (bangs on the grater) Fern! Fern!
- Class Help me get this grate up. Right now.
- Esmund runs to the back gate leading to the sea cave below
- Esmund: It has her! She can't even swim! She—
- Class: Wait, Esmund!
- Follow Esmund down below
- Esmund can be seen chasing a tentacle with Fern in its clutches
- Esmund: Give her back!
- Esmund fails to rescue Fern before she's dragged underwater
- Esmund: I have to. I have to.

Esmund dives into the water after Fern. Zatham arrives shortly after
- Zatham: Take the beast's attention away. While it's focused on you, I will find them.
Go. Now. I'll come to you when I have the children. - Class: You'd better.
- Head over to another large opening of water further into the cave
- Class: Over here, beast! Come out and die!

The Deepstrider emerges
- After defeating the Deepstrider Behemoth
- Class: Esmund! Fern? Zatham?
- Zatham: I have her! Come here, quickly — I'm going back for the boy!
- Cultists appear and begin attacking everyone
- Fern: Aaaah! Help me!
- In its death throes, the Deepstrider vomits the shard

As the player tries to rescue Fern, Akinees portals in and grabs the shard
- Akinees: Fear guides your every move.
You could have spared yourself so much. (exits with the shard) - Class: (to Fern) Stay by Zatham. He'll protect you both.
- Pursue Akinees through the portal

The portal leads to the balcony beyond the battlements
- Class: The fortress? They can't carry it far. They'd be at Diablo's side if they could.
- Akinees: Bring it to the Bride of Hell. She may need longer to prepare its journey.
- Class: If you take it, I'll follow. No matter where you run. Save yourself the time.
- Akinees: (turns to face the player) You think to frighten me More than the Lord of Terror himself I will show you fear.
(creates a summoning circle) Great One! Ease from your throne and burn the sky black!

Akinees summons the Howling Terror
- After defeating the Howling Terror

Upon its death, the weather clears
- Class: It's over. The stone's passing from one hand to another... and soon to reach Diablo.
I have to tell Karshun... and Cain.
