This "trap" is very different from most other skills in the tab. Instead of setting up some sort of automatically-firing turret device, this skill causes the Assassin to actively damage enemies by throwing blades. This skill is also a weapon-based attack, receiving 3/4 the damage of the assassin's wielded weapon (3/8 if the weapon is two-handed) as well as almost any on-hit attributes other than Chance to Cast on Attack.
Blade Fury does not use up durability from the Assassin's weapon, so using an ethereal weapon results in more damage with no drawbacks. It also has a fixed rate of fire, thus working better with Fade than Burst of Speed. Blade Fury relies on attack rating, but it does not provide any AR bonus.
The damage listed on the skill is treated as +min/max damage that ignores the 3/4 (or 3/8) penalty, rather than added straight onto the final damage like the character screen implies, so it does receive bonus from STR, DEX and off-weapon Enhanced Damage. The "Damage +x" mod on Grief Rune Word and some other weapons do not work with Blade Fury. If the assassin is wielding a claw, Claw Mastery's damage and critical bonus is applied, but attack rating bonus is not. Many of these are not correctly displayed on the character screen.
The assassin can utilize this skill along with a weapon that has good Crushing Blow to safely dispatch adversaries too dangerous to approach (such as Extra Strong/Cursed/Lightning Enchanted unique monsters). It is possible to make a viable character build around this skill, which focuses on off-weapon Enhanced Damage from auras and equipment to effectively boost damage.
This skill is very different from most other skills in the game. Nearly every other skill provides a +% enhanced damage to your attack, and off-weapon +% enhanced damage is added to the skill-based +% enhanced damage before being multiplied with the weapon damage. This skill adds a + damage to your attack, then is then multiplied by off-weapon +% enhanced damage. If you want to build an Assassin around this skill, you want to put as many +% enhanced damage jewels in your helmet, armor, and shield as you can, hire a Might mercenary, then pump this skill to maximum.
