The surge of the Black Mists spelled an end to the Zakarum Crusade on Mount Zavain
The Black Mists is a phenomenon that has covered parts of Mount Zavain since the time of the Zakarum Crusade. It's existence is heavily related to the Ancient Nightmare[1].

- The conclusion of the Forgotten Nightmares questline implies that the Black Mists is the manifestation of the accumulated hatred of the natives of Mount Zavain that was sealed within the Veradani Temple of that time[2]. This means that the Black Mists will completely fade only when Zavain natives will learn to let go of their old hatreds.
- Behind the Ancient Nightmare's lair, there is a pulsing core which might be the corrupted remnants of the seal that contained the old hatred.
