Answers in the East is the fourteenth Westmarch quest in Diablo Immortal. It follows on directly from The Hilts Trader, and leads directly into A Captain's Need.
Description[]
It's been quite some time since you left Cain's Workshop. Perhaps the elder has made a breakthrough in his research.
Answers lie in the Shassar Sea, but first you must find a ship willing to cross the hostile waters leading to the lands of the east. And that means a visit to the tavern.
Objectives[]
- Return to Cain's Workshop
- Enter Cain's Workshop
- Talk to Cain
- Examine the Scroll on Cain's Bookshelf
- Return to Cain
- Leave Cain's Workshop
- Head to Wolf City Tavern
- Talk to the Bartender inside the Tavern
Transcript[]
- Class: Cain, how goes your research? Have you found anything to help us destroy the shards?
- Deckard Cain: In fact, I've made quite a breakthrough! Poring over some of these ancient texts, I uncovered a man who knew more about the Worldstone than anyone!
- Deckard Cain: One of the original Horadrim, named Zoltun Kulle. My ancestor, Jered Cain, documented his experiences with the man quite well. It seems Kulle would experiment with Soulstones in his spare time.
- Class: Soulstones?
- Deckard Cain: Yes, powerful artifacts, intended to house the spirits of the Prime Evils. Apparently, they too were shards of the Worldstone. But only Zoltun Kulle knew of their construction.
- Deckard Cain: In the end, he was killed by his Horadric brothers. Accounts differ as to how, but it is clear the Horadrim made quite an effort to expunge his knowledge from the world.
- Class: Searching the world for traces of a man who died centuries ago is no small task. We don't even know what he looks like.
- Deckard Cain: You are not wrong there. Fortunately for us, the Horadrim were not as thorough as they believed. I was able to unearth a few records that could help us. There's even a drawing of the man over there if you're curious...
- Deckard Cain: Zoltun Kulle's paranoia may benefit us. It seems he hid many archives across the world. My research shows at least one of his libraries survived, buried beneath the sands of the Shassar Sea.
- Class: That's beyond Caldeum...
- Deckard Cain: Yes, it's quite the journey. In order to reach Shassar, you're going to need to book passage on a ship. Take that letter there on the table and bring it to the captain in the Wolf City Tavern. He'll know what it means.
- Class: Well done, Cain. I will make my way there at once!
- Class: It's growing late...I should hurry to the tavern.
- Captain Rehm: Nothing to see here.
- Drunken Sailor: You lads aren't worth your salt.
- Jacktar Brute: Say that again!
- Class: I'm looking to book passage for a voyage to the eastern lands, and a friend told me that I might find help in this tavern. Would you know anything about that?
- Bartender Bailey: Ha! Your friend's a wily one, whoever they are. Yeah, you're in the right place. But the guy you're looking for is outside...pirates tend to get a little rowdy.
- Bartender Bailey: Huh? What was that noise? Godsdammit, if they're starting a fight out there, they better not bring it inside...Well, what are you waiting for? An invitation to the tavern brawl?
- Class: Right...I'll take a look.
Trivia[]
- The quest implies that it's only in Diablo Immortal that Cain learns about Zoltun Kulle and the soulstones. This contradicts Book of Adria (where Cain knew of Kulle before the events of Diablo I) and Diablo II (where Cain was well aware of the soulstones) respectively.
- Similarly, in the beta the player character mentions looking for "a man who died a thousand years ago." While potentially hyperbole, by the timeline, less than two centuries pass between Kulle's death and the events of the game. In the final version, this was changed to "centuries," giving a more accurate timeframe.
