"A prisoner of the land, like all who breathe this air. And a friend to the downtrodden."
- An adventurer and Alaw(src)
She has a low opinion of Zakarum.[1]
Biography[]
Alaw dwelled on Bilefen in antiquity, long before Westmarch colonized the island. The people there begged for things they could not find themselves. Alaw provided for them, but many were unwilling to hold up their end of the bargains they made. Alaw took redress, which was called "uncharitable." She was imprisoned in a tree on the island, her body apparently withering away, but her spirit enduring. The Zakarum acted as wardens over her.[1]
Much later, in/around 1270, the seals on Alaw's prison were weakening. She was able to contact an adventurer, and directed them to various people on the island who needed help. Their good deeds complete, the adventurer returned to Alaw's prison, only to find it surrounded by Zakarum knights, ready to set it ablaze. Their leader claimed that the tree had to be burnt before the Witch's evil could spread. Alaw pointed out that she had asked for nothing from the adventurer, that her shackles had come loose on her own, and that she had offered kindness without terms. She implored the adventurer to set her free.[1]
- If the seal is broken
The adventurer chose to break the seal, forcing them to fight not only the knights, but Alaw's own prison. Both the knights and tree were slain, freeing Alaw. She told the adventurer the truth of her past, and thanked them for their aid, hoping to see them again.[1]
- If the tree is burnt
The adventurer set the tree ablaze, but as Alaw's seal had already been weakened, this allowed her a measure of freedom. She took control of the tree and turned it on the knights and adventurer. The tree was destroyed, but Alaw was set free in the process, albeit weakened. She told the adventurer the truth of her past, and thanked them for their aid, hoping to see them again.[1]
