Akarat was a proud Paladin[1] and member of the Knights of Westmarch. He was young, headstrong, and eager to prove his worth.[2]
Biography[]
Akarat was born in 1255 and was named after the founder of Zakarum. He patrolled Westmarch and engaged in ring bouts, but due to the timing of his birth, never saw actual battle. In 1265, after the destruction of Mount Arreat, he heard stories from men who had returned from the Dreadlands. He wanted to be just like them.[2]
In 1272, Akarat left Westmarch with Deckard Cain to follow rumors about the End of Days.[1] Cain told Akarat of the demonic invasion he feared was coming, and unlike so many others, Akarat believed him. As they travelled across Westmarch, he was eager to hear Cain's stories, and the two stayed up long after they should have entered slumber.[2]
The two entered the Borderlands, where they came across a Vizjerei repository. They entered it, and sensed they were not alone. Cain warned Akarat to ignore whatever voice he might hear, and asked him to guard the entrance. Despite Akarat's unease due to Cain's age, Cain assured him he would be alright. He would deal with whatever was in the repository, Akarat would guard against anything coming at them from outside.[2]
Despite this, the true threat was a demon who lurked inside the repository. Akarat drew his sword against the creature, but it simply passed through its smoke-like body. The demon swirled around Akarat, showing him terrible visions, and whispered terrible things about Cain and Akarat himself. Cain used an Ammuit spell to buy them some time, but despite Cain's urgings, Akarat swore to kill the demon. To avenge Khalim and the corruption of Zakarum.[2]
The demon took Akarat's own form, and the Paladin again drew his sword, and again, to no avail. The demon possessed him, and while Akarat was able to regain some control with Cain's urging, it was not enough. Cain was able to banish the demon to Hell, albeit while still possessing Akarat's body.[2]

Akarat is seen as an NPC in Diablo Immortal. He is briefly featured in the quest, "Fare You Well".
Trivia[]
- Akarat's appearance differs slightly between Diablo Immortal and The Order. In the former, he is depicted wearing gray armor, whereas in the latter, he is depicted as wearing golden armor.
