"What do you know about Ah Bulan?"
"Ah Bulan is the Mender of Veils. He wanders all across Nahantu. Sometimes beyond."

- The Wanderer and Ormus(src)

Ah Bulan was a Spirit Guardian known as the Mender of Veils. He wandered throughout Nahantu, and at times beyond, and was a very hard spirit to find.[1] In the latter part of the year, it went on a fallow walk through the Field of Giants.[2]

Ah Bulan took the form of a leonid centaur. He had long hair in thick dreadlocks, and covered his face with an avian mask. Ah Bulan wielded a spear and shield to battle. When tainted by Mephisto's corruption, his lion half was coated with tar.[3]

Biography[]

"Ah Bulan saved my life once, a long time ago. Funny to be asking for his help again."

- Eru(src)

Protector Bulan

During a Trial of Mists, one of Ah Bulan's spirits spared an unclaimed boy.[4] The boy told the spirit he would follow him always. This remained true even after Ah Bulan called the spirit home.[5] At a point in the past, Ah Bulan protected the people of Nahantu from otherworldly entities, and gifted the survivors with a sliver of his power. As a result, some began to worship him.[6]

Vessel of Hatred[]

"Only she can unmake her prison. Seek Ah Bulan, for he has the strength to lend her."

- Spirit of Akarat(src)

By 1336, Eru—following the advice of Akarat's spirit,[7] led the Wanderer to seek Ah Bulan. After getting permission from the council,[1] they opened a tear at his shrine in Wekenga to Ah Bulan's domain in the Spirit Realm. Meanwhile, Ah Bulan was being attacked by the Hollows created by Mephisto's taint.[8]

By the time they reached Ah Bulan's domain within the Spirit Realm, he had already be driven mad by the corruption, and had to be killed.[9]

Legacy[]

After his death, Eru—with grief, carved Ah Bulan's heart to give to Neyrelle. Consuming it gave her the strength to keep on resisting Mephisto's influence. This—along with Neyrelle accidentally killing Maka later on,[10] were the seeds of hatred Mephisto would eventually use to turn Eru.[11]
